Race : It ’ s Time We Talk

“Race,” it’s such a simple word but a term that carries so much power and emotion. We hear the word every day in so many contexts but what is its’ significance? How did it come about? Many scholars argue that "race" was an evolutional invention, a folk idea, not a product of scientific research. It was created to justify the social and political realities of America’s history. Now it is embedded into our society. We use race to describe the demographic make-up. We hear it when someone is given a medical history of a patient. We see it when we walk down the street and as we look around the room in our work place. Some of us “feel” it every day
